Founder’s Brewing Co. is a staple in our draught lineup, and their Breakfast Stout is one of our all time favorite brews.  This double chocolate coffee oatmeal stout (WHOAH,) is like a meal in a glass, and our bartenders would be hard pressed to identify a single guest who tried it and didn’t fall in love with it….

We haven’t tried selling it to babies, (or anyone under age 21, for that matter,) and we never would.  In addition to the fact that we would we NEVER give a minor alcohol, for obvious reasons; the thought of a baby hopped up on caffeine and sugar is pretty terrifying.  The whole situation would be plain wrong, on a variety of levels. We are pretty sure that Founders is against giving brews to babes as well…

Some people think, however, that Founders Brewing Co. needs to re-evaluate their marketing, as their Breakfast Stout features a beautiful little baby eating his morning oats, cramming his cheeks full of the delicious goodness.  Does this appeal to minors, or let grown ups know that what the bottle contains will bring them back to a time when all was right in the world, and a mouthful of something delicious was all it took to make them happy?  

New Hampshire doesn’t feel it appropriate to sell alcohol that is branded in such a manner that it MAY appeal to the younger set; apparently a pic of a baby eating oatmeal may be construed as such, when adhered to a bottle o' brew….

We love Founder’s solution; the baby has left his “crib,” and like any polite host, he left a note on the fridge with a contact number…. Give him a ring, and see what he has to say!





Get STONE'D at McLadden's West Hartford Tuesday, July 21st

Chris from Stone Brewing Co will be hanging out in our West Hartford location with our Bev Director, JD, on Tuesday, July 21st.  He's spending Happy Hour with us not only because JD is a cool guy, (he is....) but also because we will be pouring up some amazing brews.  A "celebration of hops," featuring RuinTen, Ruination 2.0, and Delicious IPA, will surely please the palates of all of our hop heads.  And because Chris and the team at Stone care about you all, he'll be bringing along a whole bunch of goodies for everyone!

Wednesdays can be a bear.  Sandwiched between two weekends, many find themselves restless come "hump day."  Seeing our guests feeling the Wednesday blues is never fun, and the team in Northampton has decided to do something about it.  Steve, Phil, Heather, and the rest of the crew have unearthed some treasures from the corners of their beer cooler, (it's pretty impressive; next time you're in, check out the glass window in the basement and your mind will be blown!) and have decided to share a special gem each Wednesday.  They have some pretty awesome stuff to share this month!  The schedule is as follows:

Doing Good Never Tasted So Good!

On June 23rd, we participated in the Girl Scouts of America's annual "Fork it Over" event, held at The Delaney House in Holyoke Massachusetts.  Our Executive Chef Dan was tasked with creating a "savory" dish out of something very sweet; Girl Scout cookies!  Dan took on the challenge like a champ, and deep fried coconut shrimp to order, incorporating crushed Samoa cookies into his batter.  We didn't take first place, but we did get a People's Choice 2nd place nod!  The money raised through ticket sales, raffles, and donations will be used to send young ladies to summer camp, to learn and explore with the Girl Scouts of America.  We were pleased and proud to stand alongside so many other amazing chefs and restaurants supporting such a great cause.  Thanks to The Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts for allowing us to be a part of something so great!

Our Beverage Director JD, (often affectionately referred to as a "total beer geek",) reached out to one of the coolest breweries in Connecticut and they invited him, and some very lucky members of our management team, down to Bristol for a tour and private tasting.  The day was grand; Cone Flakes straight from the tank, cracking open some experimental beers, checking out their sweet mode of transport, and making some great new friends.  Today marks our first delivery, and we'll start tapping kegs Monday of next week.  We are pleased and proud to bring their product into our CT spaces, and we have our fingers crossed that they'll enter the MA market soon!

We are proud to welcome NoRA Cupcake Company to McLadden's!  Carrie Carella spent a good deal of years behind the bar before opening NoRA's in Middletown, CT, and it shows...  Her cakes are anything but traditional, and nothing short of amazing.  With a penchant for infusing cupcakes with beer and booze, and coming up with over the top flavor combinations, NoRA's is a perfect fit for a craft beer bar and gastropub.  Fresh cupcakes will be on hand daily, and special flavors will roll out every Wednesday.  Have one with us after dinner, or stop by the pub for a brew and take one home for later!
