Compass Box Whisky Master Class 2016

We were honored to attend the Compass Box Master Whisky Class, taught by Compass Box's founder, John Glaser.  The whiskymakers at Compass Box push the envelope, at times straying from tradition in efforts to offer whisky drinkers the best experience possible.

The event was put on by our friends at Connecticut Distributors, and held at Krust in Middletown.  We sampled six different whiskys, including some of their limited edition items, while John told us the incredible story of how Compass Box came to be.

John realized that while traditional scotch whisky is near perfection, more could be done.  He began experimenting and blending bottles at home, and the results excited him.  Scotch was known as "your grandfather's drink," and the younger generations were missing out.   No one had entered the market in decades, and few had attempted to market to a new demographic, but he truly believed that by creating the right blends, and branding them in the right way, he could help introduce more people to the world of scotch whisky.

John began by crafting scotch blends in his home as gifts for friends, and later began selling bottles out of his backpacks to bar owners in London, (all of this is quite legal there!) Eventually, people realized he was on to something, and now Compass Box is available in over 30 countries.  It's also available in all of our McLadden's locations... Stop by and try some for yourself!

Thanks to CDI for the invite, Krust for sharing your beautiful space and serving up an excellent lunch, and John Glaser for a great (educational,) afternoon!

Show us some love and Nominate us in's 2nd Annual "Best of West Hartford" Readers Poll!

Our restaurants are a part of some pretty amazing communities, and our flagship store is proud to be a part of West Hartford!  For the second year in a row, is taking nominations for their "Best Of" poll, and we would be ecstatic if our loyal guests would take a moment from their day and show their support by nominating us for a category or two!  We like to think we have some of the best burgers in town, as well as a pretty sweet happy hour and late night scene.  If you agree, help us spread the word!  Cheers, and thanks in advance!

McLadden Restaurant Group's Family Just Got a Little Bigger!

On January 28th, our Executive Chef Dan Henneberger and his wife Crystal welcomed their 4th (Yup, you got that right, 4th....)son, Dalton Cole, into the world.  He's a total dreamboat, with a full head of hair and lashes that go on for days.  We are so excited for the Henneberger family, and we hope he takes after his mom and dad and falls in love with the restaurant industry so we can put him to work!

McLadden's West Hartford Has a New Look, and is Ready to Show it Off!

Those who frequent our West Hartford location have noticed some changes recently... Our flagship pub was in need of some TLC, and we spent a good deal of time giving it the love it deserved.  The space is warmer, more comfortable, and a whole lot prettier, thanks to a few coats of paint, gorgeous wallpaper, tons of new drapery, and a whole lot of hard work!

We invite all of our guests; past, present, and future, to join us on Tuesday, October 13th from 4-7 pm, for a extra-happy happy hour.  Passed small bites will be shared, as will some samples from our upcoming seasonal cocktail list.  Austin of Two Roads Brewing will join in the celebration, as will Alex from our friends at Waypoint Spirits.

Stop by and be our guests!

This week, the team at the office took a road trip.  The group wanted to check out some new spaces and figure out exactly what community would be the right fit for our next location.  We brought along a cooler filled with craft brews, (we had a driver, of course!) and made a pit stop at Two Roads Brewing Co in Stratford, CT.

They operate in a old factory, and their tasting room nods to the past, incorporating reclaimed lumber, old spools, and bricks that were saved during construction.  The equipment used in brewing, however, is state of the art, ensuring that every beer they brew is exactly as intended, each time. Their impeccable system grants them the ability to brew for others.  This contract brewing allows New Englanders to drink beers they wouldn't likely see otherwise.  A warehouse filled with experimental barrel aged brews, bee hives, a chicken coop, and a stage for outdoor concerts all occupy the space surrounding the main factory, and definitely upped the fun factor.

The visit was a highlight of our road trip, and we look forward to bringing our teams from the restaurants there in the near future!  Cheers!
